Privacy Policy
MechItAll LLC, 154 Alderwood Dr., Kissimmee, FL 34743-9505, USA, runs Questeryng and is responsible for your personal information (the "controller" under EU/UK law). Questeryng helps adults find people nearby to do things with: activities, favors ("side quests"), friends, dates and gigs. To do that, it needs some personal information, including your location. This policy explains what we collect, why, who can see it, and the choices you have.
The short version
- Other people never see your location. We only ever show them a rough distance, like "under 1 km". Your coordinates stay on our servers.
- You choose what's public. Each part of your status can be public or private, and your birth date, gender and dating preferences are never shown to anyone.
- We don't sell your data or use it for third-party advertising.
- You can delete your account in the app (Settings → Delete account). This deletes your data, as described below.
What we collect
| Data | What it is | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Account | Email address, phone number and/or Google sign-in; a password if you set one (stored only as a secure hash) | To sign you in and keep your account secure |
| Profile | Name, @username, photos, bio, pronouns, interests, class and skills, avatar, the quest types you offer. Organizations also provide a business location | To show your public profile to other adventurers |
| Birth date | Your date of birth (private); only your age is shown | To keep Questeryng 18+ and to apply your dating age preferences |
| Gender and dating preferences | Your gender (optional) and, if you use Dating, who you'd like to see (private) | To match you with people in Dating mode, and to check whether you can join an activity or quest its host limited to certain genders. These may reveal information about your sexual orientation, and are never shown to others |
| Status | Mood, availability, what you're looking for, and so on. You choose which parts are public | To match you with people and activities |
| Precise location | Your device's location, reported about every 5 minutes while the app is open, and in the background only if you turn on "Alerts in the background" | To show nearby activities and quests, build your Meet deck, and send proximity alerts. It is never shown to other users |
| Content | Activities and quests you post, applications, messages, chat photos, event photos, reports | To provide the service. Chats are visible only to the people in them; photos added to an activity's album only to the people who joined that activity |
| Messaging settings | Who can message you (anyone, your connections, or matches only, and whether requests must come from photo-verified adventurers), message requests you send or receive, requests you declined, and the people you restricted | To decide who can start a chat with you. Your setting is public so others see why they can't write to you; your restricted list is private. A declined request is remembered for 30 days so the same person can't ask again right away; they aren't told you declined |
| Verification selfie | A selfie you take for photo verification | A person on our team compares it with your profile photos. We don't use automated face recognition and don't create face templates, face geometry or any other biometric identifiers. The selfie is deleted right after review |
| Game progress | Prestige, level, titles, class ranks, streaks | To run Questeryng's game features |
| Meetup feedback | After you meet someone through Questeryng (a completed quest, an activity you both attended, or "We met up!" in a chat), you can each answer an optional survey: whether you met, star ratings (friendly, respectful, reliable, looked like their profile, would meet again) and whether the profile seems fake. We also count real-life meetups, no-shows and how active you are in the app | To build a hidden standing that ranks people in Meet and on the quest board, adjusts posting limits and leveling speed, and helps us spot fake or unsafe accounts. See "Meetup feedback and ranking" below |
| Items and groups | Items you buy from the Merchant with Prestige and their active effects; groups (and guilds) you start or join, join requests and the message you add to them, group invites and invite codes | To run the game and group features. Group names, descriptions, general area and member lists are visible to signed-in users; group chats only to members; a join request only to you and the group host |
| Safety contact and check-ins | The name and phone number of a trusted contact you choose (or a Questeryng adventurer you pick), and the check-in timers you start | To fill in "Share my plans" messages, which you send yourself from your own messaging app, and, if your contact is on Questeryng, to notify them if you miss a check-in or tap "I need help" (if they aren't on Questeryng, "I need help" opens a text message to them that you send yourself). Never shown to anyone else; you can change or remove it in Settings, and it is deleted with your account |
| Conversation activity | For one-to-one chats: who sent the first message, who wrote last, and how many times each of you answered the other. Never the text of your messages | To reward starting and keeping conversations going (quests, titles, and prompts like "Your move") |
| Waves | When you wave at someone nearby who is open to being approached: who waved at whom, and when | To notify them and to limit waves to one per person per day. A wave also counts as a Friends like, so waving back makes you friends and opens a chat |
| Languages | The languages you speak and are learning, with your level, and your Tandem partner preferences (native speakers only, gender, age range) | To find language-exchange (Tandem) partners in Meet. Your languages are public on your profile; Tandem preferences are private |
| Device and usage | Push notification token, crash reports (device model, OS version, app state at the crash), app usage analytics (screens viewed, app version, approximate country, a random app-instance ID), app integrity checks. We don't collect your device's advertising ID | To send notifications, fix bugs, understand which features are used, and prevent abuse. You can turn off usage analytics in Settings → Share usage analytics |
| Terms acceptance | Which version of our Terms you accepted and when | To keep a record of our agreement with you |
How others see you
Anyone signed in can see your public profile, the public parts of your status, your game progress (level, titles, Prestige), the languages you list, and the activities and quests you post. Nobody else ever sees your precise location, birth date, gender, dating preferences, private status fields, email address, phone number or push tokens. Nearby lists, the Meet deck and alerts show only a rough distance. Others can see your "Who can message me" setting. Hosts can limit an activity or quest to certain genders, an age range, classes or photo-verified adventurers; we check your private details only to decide whether you can join, and never show them to the host. If you join one that is limited, others in it can tell that you fit its limits. If you host activities, your profile shows how many people rated your events 4 stars or more on average (only once at least 3 have; never who, and never anything negative). When someone in one of your chats or groups looks for a fair meetup spot, our servers use the rough area (about 5 km) of each member who allows it to suggest public places roughly halfway; between two people the middle is also shifted by a fixed 1 to 2 km. Only the suggested places and a rounded "everyone within about X km" are shown, never anyone's location. You can turn this off in Settings → Help find fair meetup spots.
Two Merchant items share a little more on purpose: if someone uses a Lantern of Seeking, they can see the people who already liked them in Meet (and haven't been swiped on yet), so a like you give may be seen before you match; if someone uses a Summoning Scroll on you, you get a notification with their name.
Safety and moderation
To keep Questeryng safe, we check content automatically:
- Photos: uploaded photos (profile, chat and event photos) are checked with Google Cloud Vision for explicit or violent content. Clearly explicit photos are removed; borderline ones stay blurred until the viewer taps them.
- Text: reported content, new quests and activities, profile text, and the first message of a message request are checked with Google Cloud Natural Language, plus simple pattern checks for scams. A flagged message request goes to the recipient's "Filtered" folder instead of their requests.
Flagged content may be hidden and reviewed by our moderators. Moderators can also see content you report and your account's moderation history. When you report a chat message, or report someone from a chat, the last 20 messages of that chat (text, sender and time, and whether a message was a photo) are copied into the report so moderators can see what happened. This copy is kept with the report. We use rate limits and app integrity checks to prevent spam and abuse.
Meetup feedback and ranking
Meetup surveys are optional and anonymous. Nobody can see individual answers or anyone's exact score; when reviewing reports, our moderators can see a rounded summary of someone's standing, but never who said what; the person you rated is never told what you said. Once you've reached level 5 and met enough people (or joined enough activities) that no single person's feedback could stand out, you can see your own coarse level and the perks it gives you under "Your perks" on your profile. Your answers only change the other person's hidden standing, which is calculated automatically from ratings, confirmed meetups, no-show and fake-profile reports, how eager you are to meet (for example joining activities or applying to quests), and how recently you used the app. A higher standing means you appear earlier in other people's Meet deck, your quests appear higher on the board and your activities earlier in Explore, you get higher limits on posting, swiping and messaging, and you level up faster. A low standing has the opposite effect. Standing never hides you completely and is not used for anything outside Questeryng. Our moderators can see an account's standing and its totals (for example average stars and the number of no-show reports, never who gave them) when investigating reports. Contact us if you think your standing is wrong.
Who we share data with
We use these service providers to run Questeryng. They process data on our behalf.
- Google Firebase and Google Cloud (United States): sign-in, database, file storage, server functions, push notifications, crash reporting, analytics, app integrity checks, and the Vision and Natural Language moderation APIs. When someone taps Translate on a post, application, bio or chat message, that text is sent to Google Cloud Translation; translations are cached on our servers so the same text isn't sent twice.
- OpenStreetMap: your device loads map images directly from OpenStreetMap's servers, which see your IP address and the area of the map you're viewing. To show places near you (parks, cafés, museums…), our servers ask OpenStreetMap's public Overpass servers for the places in a rough area of about 15 × 15 km around you; they never receive your identity or exact location, and the result is cached and shared by everyone in that area.
- Ticketmaster: to import public events, our servers send Ticketmaster the approximate area of places where activities exist. We never send your personal data.
We share information when the law requires it (for example a valid subpoena or court order), to protect someone's safety, to enforce our Terms, or to protect our rights. If MechItAll LLC or Questeryng is sold, merged or reorganized, your information may be transferred as part of that deal, and this policy will keep applying to it. We don't sell personal information or share it for cross-context behavioral advertising, so there's nothing to opt out of; we treat browser and device "Global Privacy Control" signals the same way.
How long we keep data
- Your location is kept only as your latest position, and is deleted after 14 days without an update, or straight away if you turn off "Show me to adventurers nearby".
- Verification selfies are deleted after review.
- Waves are deleted after 7 days. Conversation activity is kept as long as the chat exists, and deleted with your account.
- A declined message request deletes that chat for both people; the record that you declined it is deleted after 30 days.
- Usage analytics are kept by Google Analytics for up to 14 months; crash reports for 90 days.
- An accepted join request is deleted when you join. A declined one is kept, so it isn't sent again, until the group or your account is deleted.
- Unanswered meetup surveys expire after 14 days. Meetup feedback counts less over time and is deleted with your account; ratings you gave others stay only as part of their anonymous totals.
- Inactive accounts: if an account isn't used (no sign-in and no app use) for 2 years, it is deleted the same way as with "Delete account", after notifications 30 days and 7 days in advance; opening the app cancels it. Sign-ups that never created a profile are deleted after 30 days without use. Organizations that haven't opened the app for 90 days stop appearing in Meet until they come back.
- A quest nobody takes expires 24 hours after its date, or 30 days after posting if it has no date.
- Everything else is kept until you delete it or delete your account.
- Reports and moderation records may be kept after an account is deleted, to prevent abuse.
- Cached translations are kept after an account is deleted. They contain only the translated text and its language, not who wrote it or who asked for it.
Deleting your account
Go to Settings → Delete account in the app. This permanently deletes your profile, photos, private data, location, progress, meetup feedback about you, likes, matches, verification data and login. Your languages, Tandem preferences, messaging settings and restricted list, message requests, event photos you added, Merchant items, waves and conversation activity are deleted, and you leave all your groups: a group you host passes to another member (and stops being a guild), and a group with no members left is deleted. Your open quests and hosted activities are cancelled. In chats, your past messages remain for the other participants, labeled "Deleted adventurer". If you can't use the app, see Delete your account.
Your rights
Depending on where you live (for example, under GDPR in the EU/UK or CCPA/CPRA in California), you may have the right to access, correct, delete or export your data, to object to or restrict certain processing, and to withdraw consent. Most of this can be done in the app. For anything else, email contact@mechitall.com. You can also complain to your local data protection authority.
We'll answer within 45 days (one month in the EU/UK), and may need to confirm it's really you, usually by asking you to write from your account's email or phone. You can use an authorized agent where your law allows. We won't treat you differently for using your rights. If we turn down your request, you can appeal by replying to our answer with "Appeal" in the subject; we'll respond within 45 days, and if you're still not satisfied you can contact your state attorney general or data protection authority.
Sensitive personal information (California): your precise location, and your dating preferences where they reveal your sexual orientation, count as sensitive personal information under the CPRA. We use them only to provide the features you ask for (nearby activities, the Meet deck, proximity alerts and Dating), never to infer other things about you, and we don't sell or share them.
Canada, Australia and New Zealand. Under Canada's PIPEDA (and provincial laws such as Quebec's Law 25), Australia's Privacy Act 1988 (the Australian Privacy Principles) and New Zealand's Privacy Act 2020, you can ask to access and correct your personal information, and you can withdraw your consent (for example by turning off location, Dating or analytics, or by deleting your account). We'll answer within 30 days in Canada and Australia and within 20 working days in New Zealand. Your dating preferences may reveal your sexual orientation, which is "sensitive information" under these laws; we collect it only with your consent, which you give by turning on Dating and choosing who you'd like to see. If you're not satisfied with our answer, you can complain to the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada (or, in Quebec, the Commission d'accès à l'information), the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner, or New Zealand's Office of the Privacy Commissioner.
Person in charge of personal information. MechItAll LLC's privacy officer is responsible for protecting your personal information, including for Quebec's Law 25. Contact: Privacy Officer, MechItAll LLC, 154 Alderwood Dr., Kissimmee, FL 34743-9505, USA, contact@mechitall.com.
Legal bases (EU/UK):
- Performing our contract with you, which covers providing the service.
- Your consent, for location permission, background alerts, push notifications and usage analytics. You can withdraw consent at any time in your phone's settings or in the app.
- Your explicit consent, for dating preferences that may reveal your sexual orientation. You give it by turning on Dating and choosing who you'd like to see, and can withdraw it by turning Dating off or clearing those preferences.
- Our legitimate interests in safety, security and improving the app.
- Legal obligations.
Ranking and automated decisions. We rank the Meet deck, the quest board and Explore using factors such as distance, shared interests, activity and the hidden meetup standing described above, and our automated checks can hide content until a moderator reviews it. None of these produce legal or similarly significant effects on their own; account suspensions and bans are decided by people. You can object to this processing, or ask for a human to review a decision, by emailing us.
Age limit
Questeryng is only for adults 18 and older. We don't knowingly collect data from anyone under 18. If we learn that an account belongs to a minor, we delete it.
Security and international transfers
Data is encrypted in transit and at rest and stored on Google Cloud servers in the United States. If you use Questeryng from outside the US, your information is transferred to and stored in the US, where it is subject to US law and may be accessed by US courts, law enforcement and national security authorities. Google, our main processor, protects such transfers with the EU-US Data Privacy Framework and the European Commission's Standard Contractual Clauses, and we require our service providers to protect your information to a standard comparable to the privacy law where you live (including Australian Privacy Principle 8 and New Zealand's Information Privacy Principle 12). If we learn of a security breach affecting your personal information, we'll notify you and the authorities as the law requires.
Access is protected by security rules and limited to what each feature needs. No system is perfectly secure, so please use a strong password.
Changes
If we make significant changes to this policy, we'll tell you in the app before they take effect, and may ask you to accept them again. The date at the top shows when it last changed.
